What a year!  As the FTC worked through the challenges of COVID-19, we did not slow our support for you or our state for even a moment. This year the FTC was appointed to Governor Ron DeSantis' Task Force to Re-Open Florida to represent Florida’s Information and Technology sector. As a result, your voice was delivered clearly and Florida’s tech industry boomed while similar businesses in other states, without this unified voice and strong support from their Governor, found themselves in jeopardy of going out of business or significantly reducing their workforce. The Florida Technology Council was also recently appointed to the Credentials Review Committee. Keep reading to learn about FTC's incredible past, present, and future events and how you can become involved!

FTC's State Advisory Workgroup, comprised exclusively of former State & Municipality CIOs, CISOs and agency heads, brings leadership from across the nation to provide guidance for both Florida's public sector State Agency and Municipality staff and private sector members of the Florida Technology Council. Recent Talk Series events have included influential speakers such as;

Congressmen Neal Dunn joined FTC Member Ryan Hardenbrook of Proofpoint, and FTC CEO James Taylor on stage during the 2021 Tech & Innovation Summit.  This was just one of the incredible sessions provided as JMI and FTC brought together thought leaders in policy, industry, and media to discuss how Florida can continue to lead the future. We hope you didn’t miss this event!

Speakers at this event included...

If education is your thing, then we need to talk!  This year's FAMIS Conference featured speakers such as Andre Smith, CIO of the FLDOE, and Stephen Bowen, Assistant Deputy Commissioner - Data Systems. Florida Technology Council members Henry Martin, the CIO of Walton County School District, and Adam Ricciardiello, Director of Strategic Accounts at Tanium, joined FTC CEO...yeah you know who he is, on stage to showcase this successful collaboration between our two members, demonstrating the need and impact of penetration testing in a school district.

For three consecutive years FTC has provided insight, education and trainings for those interested in becoming a state agency CIO.  Erin Rock, FTC Member and world-renowned former Secretary for the Department of Management Services, moderates leadership to foster discussion and dialogue on what it means to be a successful CIO in the public sector and how to use IT as a strategic tool.

Recent Guest Speakers have included;

  • Bob Ward, CIO, Department of Management Services
  • Warren Sponholtz, CIO Department of Environmental Protection
  • Joseph Martin, CIO, Department of Business and Professional Regulation

FTC and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs is connecting with students across our state to address the growing isolation that has been generated by a lack of basic digital skills in our elderly population. FTC is joined by members Epic Group and The Workmans to create a website to deliver educational trainings, virtual vacations, and opportunities for youth and elderly connections across Florida's Livable Communities.

Did you know Florida will pay you to hire an intern? You probably missed it tucked deep inside a 54 page legislative bill that, on May 21st,Governor DeSantis signed into law. The Florida Internship Tax Credit Program is real, however. This bill authorizes a corporate income tax credit of $2,000 for each student intern employed by a qualified business, up to a maximum of $10,000 in any taxable year for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2022. The program ultimately was picked up in SB 7068 and can be found in sections 23,24, and 27 on pages 11-12 of the linked bill analysis. A more substantive analysis can be found on SB 258, when the program was a standalone bill.

Want to know more? Of course you do. That's why FTC is working with Florida Senator Shevron Jones to bring you everything you need to know. Stay tuned!
